Airport scanner companies queue for business after 'underpants bomber' 18 January 2010
Detroit bomb attempt opens $600m opportunities for Rapiscan and other full-body scanner manufacturers

...Investors have been quick to spot a rapid profit. One Californian firm specialising in imaging machines, Rapiscan, has seen its shares in its parent company, OSI Systems, leap by 27% since Christmas. American Science and Engineering, is up by 16% and has deployed its chief executive to have his own body scanned on live television.

Analysts say that installing scanners within the US could cost $300m – paid for, in part, by economic stimulus money. As the US urges other nations to scan passengers on US-bound flights, the outlay could double internationally.

Michael Kim, an analyst at Imperial Capital in Los Angeles, said: "We estimate that there are approximately 2,000 security lanes at US airports, each of which would require a body scanning machine if that's the route the TSA chooses to take. Our information is that the cost of each scanner is around $150,000."

Sofort nach der dramatischen Festnahme des »Unterhosen-Bombers«, eines 23-jährigen Nigerianers auf dem Flug von Amsterdam nach Detroit, der angeblich Sprengstoff in seine Unterwäsche eingenäht hatte, wurde der Ruf laut, die umstrittenen Körper- oder Nacktscanner an den Flughäfen einzusetzen, um damit in Zukunft solche »Unterhosen-Bomber« ausfindig machen zu können. In den USA macht sich nun ein Mann ganz besonders für den Einsatz solcher Scanner stark: der frühere Minister für Heimatschutz, Michael Chertoff, dessen ehemalige Behörde für die Sicherheit an Flughäfen verantwortlich ist.

Chertoff hat seine eigene Sicherheitsberatungsfirma vor nicht einmal einem Jahr gegründet, nachdem er aus seinem Amt als Minister ausgeschieden ist. Es ist gewiss kein kleines Liebhaberunternehmen. Auf ihrer Website beschreibt sich die Firma selbst:

»Unsere Direktoren arbeiten schon seit Jahren eng zusammen, als führende Vertreter der Ministerien für Verteidigung-, Heimatschutz und Justiz sowie der National Security Agency und der CIA. Wir haben erlebt, unter welchem Druck jeder stand – ein Druck, den sich die Allermeisten nie wünschen würden, wenn Tausende Menschenleben oder sogar die Sicherheit des ganzen Landes auf dem Spiel standen, wo keine Zeit zu verlieren war und zumeist nur sehr spärliche Informationen vorlagen. Wir haben es gemeinsam durchgestanden. Und die Vereinigten Staaten sind gestärkt daraus hervorgegangen …«

Zur Chertoff Group gehört der frühere Vorsitzende der CIA, General Michael V. Hayden, der vor seiner Ernennung zum CIA-Chef im Jahr 2006 Chef der hochgeheimen National Security Agency gewesen war. Keine schlechte Visitenkarte. Auch Chertoffs früherer, für Sicherheitsfragen zuständiger Staatssekretär beim Heimatschutzministerium Charles E. Allen, der 40 Jahre für die CIA tätig war, gehört dem Unternehmen an.

Während Chertoffs Amtszeit als Heimatschutzminister hat die US-Regierung die ersten Scanner der Firma Rapiscan gekauft. Erst vor wenigen Monaten hat das amerikanische Transportministerium 25 Millionen Dollar, die gemäß dem »American Recovery and Reinvestment Act« bewilligt worden waren, für den Kauf weiterer 150 Geräte von Rapiscan verwendet. Jetzt, nach Detroit, hat das Ministerium angekündigt, noch einmal 300 Geräte anzuschaffen. Die kalifornische Firma Rapiscan, Inc., die das derzeit meistverwendete Modell produziert, ist zufällig Kunde der Chertoff Group. Wie schön doch bei der Lobbyarbeit in Washington eine Hand die andere wäscht!

"IBM arbeitet offenbar an der Entwicklung eines Systems zur Flughafenüberwachung. Einige Patentanträge von IBM-Erfindern beschreiben das Zusammenspiel eines Netzwerks biometrischer, audiovisueller, chemischer oder auf Bewegungen ausgerichteter Sensoren mit einer Inferenzmaschine zum Data Mining. Darunter ist ein Antrag mit der Nummer 20090232357 vom März 2008, der ein Verfahren zur "Entdeckung von Verhaltensabweichungen durch das Messen von Augenbewegungen" beschreibt."  Ein weiterer Antrag erhebt Ansprüche auf das Registrieren von Verhaltensabnormalitäten in Gruppen durch die Messung von Atemmustern.

Dennis Blair & the High-Value Detainee Interrogation Group January 21, 2010
Barring some serious turn of events, the civil trial process is already underway for Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the suspect accused of trying to blow up a Detroit-bound Northwest Airlines flight on Christmas Day.

But if the nation's intelligence chief Dennis Blair had it his way, the High-Value Detainee Interrogation Group should have been brought in first.

Since the incident, others are also beginning to question how and why the government decided to place the 23-year-old Nigerian national in the civilian court system. National Intelligence Director Dennis Blair lamented before a Senate panel that the High-Value Detainee Interrogation Group (HIG) should have questioned Abdulmutallab in the hours after he was taken into custody on a landed Detroit-bound airliner.

What is HIG?
It is elite interrogation unit created by the Obama administration last year to handle suspects captured abroad. The interagency squad is housed administratively within the FBI and reports to the National Security Council.

What is the role of the HIG?
The group comprised of CIA, FBI, and other federal agency employees makes "case by case" decisions on Mirandizing detainees, creates a playbook of the most effective proven interrogation practices and travels around the world.

Why do we have the HIG?
HIG is in place to limit Obama and future Presidents from having too much control over the interrogation process. White House officials have said they would "not be involved in the "tactical and operational decisions" of the HIG.

Is the HIG up and running?
Currently, the HIG is not fully operational yet and law enforcement officials say it would have taken several hours at a minimum to get anyone assigned to the group to Detroit.
As previously discussed in Findlaw's Courtside, Blair, the nation's intelligence said HIG should have been been used to try and obtain actionable intelligence before Mirandizing Abdulmutallab.
He told the Homeland Security Committee that he was not consulted on whether Abdulmutallab should have been questioned by the HIG unit to determine whether he should be charged in civilian or military court.

The Merchants of Fear: Israel’s Profiting from Homeland Insecurity January 20, 2010


In the wake of the weird Christmas Day “underwear bomber” incident on Northwest Flight 253, former Homeland Security chief Michael Chertoff, as if on cue, was all over the mainstream media touting whole-body scanners as the answer to America’s airline security problems. Since leaving public office in 2009, Chertoff had co-founded the Chertoff Group, a security and risk-management firm whose clients include a manufacturer of body-imaging screening machines. While some in the media noted this rather commonplace conflict of interest, ignored by all was a far more significant abuse of the American public’s trust.
In a CNN interview, Chertoff cited the Detroit incident as “a very vivid lesson in the value of that machinery.” One lesson that he hasn’t drawn, however, was about the unreliability of the security firm which allowed the young Nigerian Muslim without a passport to “slip through” Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport.

ICTS International N.V., the Dutch-based security firm, was established in 1982 by former members of Israel’s secret police, the Shin Bet, and El Al security. Menachem Atzmon, who holds the controlling shares in the firm, was convicted in 1996 for campaign finance fraud while co-treasurer of the Likud party. The other co-treasurer Ehud Olmert, who was acquitted of those charges, resigned as Israeli Prime Minister in 2008 amid multiple corruption charges.

Striking oil on 9/11
On October 11, 2001, exactly one month after 9/11, Senator Lieberman introduced S. 1534, a bill to establish a Department of Homeland Security. The bipartisan Department of National Homeland Security Act of 2001 was co-sponsored by Republican Senator Arlen Specter, who is, perhaps not coincidentally, also a Jewish Zionist.
   The day after 9/11, Benjamin Netanyahu let slip that the deaths of almost 3,000 Americans was “very good” for Israel. In particular, the mass murder was very good for an emerging sector of the Israeli economy. In “Laboratory for a Fortressed World,” Naomi Klein detailed the post-9/11 “explosion of Israel’s homeland security sector.”

“Before 9/11 homeland security barely existed as an industry,” Klein wrote in 2007*. “By the end of this year, Israeli exports in the sector will reach $1.2 billion – an increase of 20 percent. The key products and services are high-tech fences, unmanned drones, biometric IDs, video and audio surveillance gear, air passenger profiling and prisoner interrogation systems – precisely the tools and technologies Israel has used to lock in the occupied territories.”

And the Department of Homeland Security, the Lieberman-Specter brainchild then headed by Michael Chertoff, had become one of Israel’s most reliable markets.
“Israel has struck oil,” as Klein so aptly put it. “The oil is the war on terror, the state of constant fear that creates a bottomless global demand for devices that watch, listen, contain and target ‘suspects.’”

Selbstmordattentäter nutzen explosive Körperimplantate – wirklich?

Der britische Geheimdienst M15 hat entdeckt, dass die weiblichen Selbstmordattentäter von Al Quaida explosive Ladungen in ihre Brüste implantiert kriegen. Die Operation entspricht in etwa der bei einer Brustvergrösserung. Dadurch werden Bomben am Flughafen kaum mehr zu entdecken. Aber etwas ist sehr merkwürdig daran.

Der Sprengstoff besteht aus Nitripenta d.h. aus Pentaerythritol Tetranitrat – auch bekannt als PETN, einem der explosivsten Stoffe überhaupt. Die (angeblich in England ausgebildeten) Chirurgen, die diese Operationen machen, setzen die Sprengladung in Kunststoffbeutel, genau wie jene, in denen sich sonst Silikon für Brustimplantate befindet.
Es ist nicht leicht, PETN zu entzünden, auch wenn es sensibler auf Erschütterung und Reibung reagiert als TNT. Es hat eine Explosionskraft von 5.810 Kilojoule pro Gram. Mit anderen Worten, eine Körbchengröße C mit nur wenigen Gram PETN geladen, könnte ein großes Loch in die Triebwerke eines Flugzeuges reißen. Also genug um einen Absturz zu verursachen.
Diese Informationen entnahm M15 den Berichten von Terroristen aus dem Nahen Osten nach dem gescheiterten “Leistenbombenattentat”. Des weiteren sollen männliche Terroristen ihren Hintern in gleicher Weise aufrüsten, in dem sie durch die gleiche OP PETN in ihre Popacken implantieren lassen.
Es hört sich beängstigend an. Es ist beängstigend. Wenn PETN sich in Kleidung oder Taschen befindet, ist es mit Hilfe von Scannern oder chemischen Nachweistests leicht zu entdecken. Und der Bericht ergänzt, dass diese Bomben im menschlichen Körper kaum zu entdecken sind – es sei denn man rüstet die Flughäfen mit Ganzkörperscannern aus.

EPIC v. DHS (Suspension of Body Scanner Program)
EPIC has filed a lawsuit to suspend the deployment of body scanners at US airports, pending an independent review. On July 2, 2010, EPIC filed a petition for review and motion for an emergency stay, urging the District of Columbia Court of Appeals to suspend the Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) full body scanner program. EPIC said that the program is "unlawful, invasive, and ineffective." EPIC argued that the federal agency has violated the Administrative Procedures Act, the Privacy Act, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, and the Fourth Amendment. EPIC cited the invasive nature of the devices, the TSA's disregard of public opinion, and the impact on religious freedom.....

Privacy Group Sues Big Sis Over Secretive Mobile Body Scanners

Previously released Federal documents show that the Department of Homeland Security is actively moving to install radiation firing naked body scanners in all manner of public places, beyond the nation’s airports. However, the agency is refusing to release further details on the program.

Privacy watchdog EPIC (Electronic Privacy Information Center) filed a lawsuit this week against the Department of Homeland Security for attempting to keep the program secret.

EPIC’s suit asks a federal court to order disclosure of nearly 1,000 pages of additional records detailing the controversial program – records the agency has repeatedly refused to make public, despite freedom of information requests and appeals over the last seven months.

The lawsuit points to an agency under the DHS umbrella, the Science and Technology Directorate, which has released only 15 full pages of documents on the mobile scanners, whilst heavily redacting another 158 pages and withholding 983 pages of documents.

In February, EPIC discovered (PDF) that the DHS had paid contractors “millions of dollars on mobile body scanner technology that could be used at railways, stadiums, and elsewhere” on crowds of moving people.

According to the documents obtained by EPIC, the Transport Security Agency plans to expand the use of these systems to peer under clothes and inside bags away from airports.
