Edward Bernays – Der Vater der Massenmanipulation

Edward Bernays ist in Deutschland weitgehend unbekannt. Doch der Propagandaexperte hat in seinen über hundert Lebensjahren die Welt der „westlichen Werte“ entscheidend vorgedacht und geprägt.

„Die bewußte und intelligente Manipulation der organisierten Gewohnheiten und Meinungen der Massen stellt ein wichtiges Element in der demokratischen Gesellschaft dar. Jene Leute, die diesen unbeachteten Mechanismus der Gesellschaft manipulieren, bilden eine unsichtbare Regierung, die die tatsächlich herrschende Macht in unserem Lande darstellt.

Wir werden regiert, unser Verstand wird modelliert, unser Geschmack geprägt, unsere Vorstellungen werden vorgegeben weitgehend von Männern, von denen wir noch nie etwas gehört haben. Das ist das logische Ergebnis der Art und Weise, wie unsere demokratische Gesellschaft organisiert wird. Eine gewaltige Menge von Menschen muß in dieser Weise zusammenarbeiten, wenn sie als eine reibungslos funktionierende Gesellschaft zusammenleben soll.“

Starke Worte. So eröffnet Edward Bernays 1928 sein wichtigstes Buch, das den offenherzigen Titel „Propaganda“ trägt....
