EU verurteilt Israels Besatzungspolitik 15 Mai 2012
Die Europäische Union hat Israel wegen seiner zunehmenden Siedlungsaktivitäten in den besetzten Gebieten sowie der schlechten Behandlung von Pälästinensern kritisiert.

Am gestrigen Montag haben die Außenminister der EU eine scharfe Kritik an Israel veröffentlicht, mit der sie Tel Aviv die Sabotage von Friedensverhandlungen, die Ausweitung illegaler Siedlungen auf palästinensischem Boden, den Extremismus der Siedler und die schlechte Behandlung der Palästinenser vorwerfen.
Außerdem verurteilten sie die Zerstörung palästinensischer Häuser im besetzten Al-Quds (Jerusalem) und die Verhinderung jeglicher friedlichen kulturellen, wirtschaftlichen, sozialen und politischen Aktivitäten in der Westbank.
Schließlich forderten sie Tel Aviv auf, die Baugenehmigungen für Palästinenser, die in der Westbank Gebäude errichten wollen, zu vereinfachen.
Die Stellungnahme der EU folgt auf einen Bericht von Nichtregierungsorganisationen, wonach Israel Dutzende palästinensische Häuser, Zisternen und landwirtschaftliche Gebäude zerstört hat, die im vorigen Jahr mit EU-Mitteln erbaut worden waren.

Je kostbarer etwas ist, umso schneller entbrennt der Kampf darüber, wer es bekommt. Dass in Zukunft Kriege um das Wasser geführt wer- den, kann von Experten nicht ausgeschlossen werden. Es gab schon lokale Konflikte, wie etwa 1980 in Äthiopien, 2000 in China und 2005 in Kenia, die teils mit Waffengewalt ausgetragen wurden. Der Streit ums Wasser ist besonders an Flüssen vorprogrammiert, an die unterschiedliche Staaten angrenzen – Fachleute gehen von weltweit rund 200 polttischen Konfliktregionen aus. So teilen sich beispielsweise das Nilwasser mehr als 140 Millionen Menschen in zehn Ländern. Den größten Teil des Flusses möchte Ägypten nutzen, doch 85 Prozent des Nilwassers entspringen in Äthiopien. Der Zankapfel von Türkei, Syrien und Irak heißt Euphrat und Tigris, Syrien und Israel konkurrieren um das Wasser der Golanhöhen.

The Ugly Parade of Jerusalem Day May 20th, 2012
Today is “Jerusalem Day”, the day Israelis celebrate the unification of the city of Jerusalem in 1967 . It is one of the lowest rating holidays in Israel attracting minimum public participation and attention. I believe that for most Jewish Israelis the importance of the Jerusalem day, if at all, is to celebrate our return to the Old City, the holy sites and the Western Wall. Jerusalem is heart of the state of Israel. It is a symbol for the Jewish people and for the Jewish religion (just as it is for the Palestinians) and we cannot give up on Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. However, the very unification of Jerusalem (i.e. the annexation of 28 Palestinian neighborhoods in 70 sq.km around Jerusalem in 1967) was not a good thing for Jerusalem nor did it contribute to strengthen the status of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Most of Jewish Israelis, including the Jerusalemites, are not really aware of the meaning of this unification. We don’t see nor visit the Palestinian neighborhoods that were annexed to Jerusalem in 1967, and we have almost no interaction with the 300,000 Palestinians residing in the united city of Jerusalem.

This is why in recent years, the main event of Jerusalem Day, which is a big parade in the streets of the Old City, is attended almost solely by right wing, mostly national religious, youngsters. Unfortunately this parade has become one of the most vulgar expressions of the Israeli occupation.
