Rajneesh Chandra Mohan Jain (* 11. Dezember 1931 in Kuchwada, Madhya Pradesh, Indien; † 19. Januar 1990 in Pune, Maharashtra, Indien) war der Urheber und Mittelpunkt der Neo-Sannyas-Bewegung, einer neuen spirituellen Bewegung mit Sitz in Indien und zeitweise auch den Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika und weiterhin Anhängern in der ganzen Welt. Er nannte sich zuerst Acharya Rajneesh (Mitte der Sechzigerjahre bis Anfang der Siebzigerjahre), danach Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh (bis Ende 1988) und von Anfang 1989 bis zu seinem Tod Osho.

Frage an Osho:
Kannst du bitte darüber sprechen, wie man sich dem Tod jeden Augenblicks stellen und loslassen kann?

Der Tod geschieht bereits. Ob du dich dem stellst oder nicht, ob du ihm ins Auge schaust oder nicht, er ist bereits da.
Er ist wie das Atmen. Wenn der Mensch zur Welt kommt, atmet er ein, atmet zum allerersten Mal ein. Das ist der Anfang des Lebens. Und wenn er dann irgendwann alt wird und stirbt, wird er ausatmen.
Den Tod begleitet immer ein Ausatmen, und die Geburt ein Einatmen. Aber das Ein- und Ausatmen geschieht unaufhörlich. Mit jedem Einatmen wirst du geboren, mit jedem Ausatmen stirbst du.
Dies ist also das Erste, was es zu verstehen gilt: dass der Tod nicht irgendwo in der Zukunft liegt und auf dich wartet, so wie man sich das immer vorgestellt hat. Er gehört zum Leben dazu, er ist ein Dauerprozess … nicht in der Zukunft – hierjetzt.
Leben und Tod sind die zwei Seiten der Existenz und geschehen gleichzeitig, gemeinsam. Gewöhnlich hat man euch zu denken gelehrt, dass der Tod gegen das Leben sei. Der Tod ist nicht gegen das Leben – Leben ist ohne Tod gar nicht möglich. Der Tod ist der eigentliche Urgrund allen Lebens. Tod und Leben sind wie die zwei Schwingen eines Vogels: Mit einer Schwinge kann er nicht fliegen, und ohne den Tod kann es kein Sein geben....

Osho:
Indischer Mystiker (1931-90), bürgerl. Name: Rajneesh Chandra Mohan; zeitweise auch Bhagwan genannt; erlangte 1953 Erleuchtung; Professor für Philosophie; ließ sich 1974 in Poona nieder, wo sein Ashram viele Suchende aus dem Westen anzog; ging 1981 in die USA, wo in Oregon eine große Kommune (Ranch / Rajneeshpuram) um ihn herum entstand; nach deren Auflösung ließ er sich 1987 wieder in Poona nieder, wo 1990 nach längerer Krankheit seinen Körper verließ. Sein Ashram in Poona wird auch heute noch von Suchenden aus aller Welt besucht. Aus seinen Vorträgen entstanden - und entstehen immer noch - eine große Anzahl von Büchern, mehrere Hundert, die in vielen Teilen der Welt gelesen werden.
